“War”

Conflicts has always been there since history. Some conflicts take place only on a small level involving only few people but other conflicts span regions and stretches for decades. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, war is the “state of usually open and declared armed hostile conflict between states or nations.” Over the centuries, humans have described war as everything from a glorious struggle to a pointless, violent, and inhuman activity.

The causes of war are actually numerous. Many theories have been put together over the past years on why wars happen. Wars may be caused due to economic gain, territorial gain, religion, nationalism, revenge, civil war, revolutionary war, and defensive war.           The effects brought by war is very destructive in humans, politics, economy, and also the environment. These aspects are all equally damaged because of war. (audio of war) Humans are the ones who suffer a lot during the times of war. They face death, injuries, psychological damages, and a lot more. (video of war) Soldiers are not just the ones who suffer during a war, veterans and even normal people tends to suffer too during this time. (picture of innocents) The most wide-reaching political effect of a war is that it can annihilate states and communities. Under a state of emergency or martial law, freedom of speech and freedom of choice as well as political and societal group activities are considerably restricted. (Martial Law) Infrastructures and livelihoods are all damaged, also there are limitations regarding economic activities. Damages caused by oils, chemicals, landmines or not exploded ordnance takes a long time before it is repaired that it threatens the livelihood of many people because of the pollution of water, air, and soil.           War is always a choice and it will always be a bad choice because it will always lead to more and bigger war. There are no real victors in a war since all parties have to suffer the consequences of their actions. Both sides often have high numbers of casualties after a war. Violence is usually the possible response to conflicts but non-violent action and resistance is a better choice since it defuses and helps resolve conflicts. For peace to prevail, we must prepare in advance the better choice we have to take.
